Manzini has the largest urban population in the country and has become known as the hub of Swaziland, in that it lies in the populous Middle Veld region, where the nucleus of the Swazi nation lives. Because of this central location, the city has remained the most convenient trading zone for people coming from all regions of the eSwatini Kingdom for over 100 years. In fact, the site of present-Manzini was where the first economic and commercial activities began. As more white settlers sought concessions over the land, it was then called Bremersdorp after Arthur Bremer, one of the first white settlers to start a commercial activity and established a store. Before 1903, when Manzini was destroyed during the Anglo-Boer War and the capital moved to Mbabane, Bremersdorp was the country’s capital under the Transvaal administration. However, the city has remained an important commercial, agricultural, and industrial center.
