At the western entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, on the Maghreb coast, Tangier rises since before the 10th century BC, with a history influenced by many cultures and civilizations.
Such an ancient city, Tangier is now experiencing both rapid development and modernization, but it still hosts the remains of what was once a stone rampart surrounding the old town, which dates to the Portuguese occupation of it.
Moreover, Tangier attracted many artists, like Eugène Delacroix and George Orwell, and influenced artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, and Pablo Picasso.
Tangier is now a very popular tourist attraction.
