Jinja sits along the northern shores of Lake Victoria, near the source of the White Nile. “Jinja” means “rock” in Luganda language and it refers to the large flat rocks that are submerged since the construction of the Owen Falls Dam upon Ripon Falls. Jinja was founded in 1901 as a British administrative center and planned under German colonial rule in 1948, Today, it grew to become one of the larger towns in Uganda.
