Livingstone, also known as Maramba, is located in the extreme south of Zambia and it lies on the bank of the Zambezi River, just north of Victoria Falls. The site takes its name from the 19th-century Scottish explorer and missionary David Livingstone, who first discovered it. In 1907 the city became the first capital of Northern Rhodesia and the country’s first municipality. Indeed, the completion of the Victoria Falls Bridge and the main railway line had turned it into an ideal distribution point for agricultural products and timber.
